Our psychologists in Ottawa / Gatineau can help you
Psychological assessments are comprehensive evaluation methods used to diagnose psychological problems and disorders. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders–V (DSM–V) has long been considered the Bible of diagnosis and treatment. Proper diagnosis is often the foundation of treatment decisions made by mental health practitioners.
Below are the main psychological challenges that our team of psychologists and neuropsychologists can assess:
While any psychotherapeutic approach includes an assessment of the problem for which an individual may consult, a psychological evaluation is a much more comprehensive process to better understand and identify — with precision — the origin and nature of difficulties experienced by an individual. This approach evaluates the cognitive function, emotions, the mood of the person, and several facets of personality. The latter includes the symptoms experienced by individuals, the triggers for these symptoms (and or contributing factors in keeping them in place), learning, memory, the short, medium and long-term consequences related to the (personal, social, occupational or academic) functioning of individuals, strengths and weaknesses of individuals; coping strategies, etc.
A first meeting can help understand the individual's concerns and why he/she needs a psychological evaluation. Then a battery of tests is administered to assess different facets of personality (using psychometric tools). These tests may take several hours or up to a day to administer. We try to assess the full potential of the individual: it may be that we ask you to return a second and even third time for us to complete the tests — especially for young children who get tired more quickly. For their part, parents (and certain teachers) may also have to answer certain questionnaires — related to psycho-educational evaluations or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Then, the psychologist reviews, analyzes and interprets the data before writing his/her report. This report contains the reasons for the referral, a brief history of the situation, the results obtained on various psychometric tests, clinical impressions and the psychologist's conclusions, and recommendations which outline possible solutions (to solve/facilitate/help) the person to manage the identified problems (linked to the needs of the person).
Y2CP offers several types of psychological and neuropsychological assessments for children, teens, adults and the elderly. All our assessments are available in French and English and are focussed on diagnosis and the identification of proper treatment solutions.
Our fees for psychological services are tax exempt and qualify for partial or total insurance coverage. Most insurance providers for Government departments/agencies cover up to 80% of psychological fees (up to $1000.00/yearly maximum per family member).
Prices for psychological assessments vary depending on the nature of the evaluation. Please contact us to obtain a quote.
