Magdalena Godula, Ph. D., Counselling therapist

Biography

Biography

Mrs. Magdalena Godula, PhD, RP is a Registered Psychotherapist in the province of Ontario with over 20 years of experience, providing individual psychotherapy to adults in both English and Polish. She practices from a psychoanalytic approach, using a relational/interpersonal, process-level focus. She also incorporates elements from psycholinguistic, narrative, experiential, existential, solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioural theory into her work with clients.

Psychotherapy is a relational process - a process within the therapeutic relationship, which provides the safe, stable, and supportive space, within which clients can experience themselves as they are, and where the therapist and client work together to uncover, explore, and resolve the difficulties with which they come. In doing so, we also work to uncover, explore, and draw on the inner resources each individual has within them, often unrecognized, to create positive change and wholeness. This may involve making connections between the present difficulties and other aspects of clients’ life experience which have contributed, and in time led to, where they are and who they are today. Like a beautiful but complex puzzle, wholeness and healing is created by recognizing, becoming aware of, changing where necessary, and integrating all of those aspects together – including those we may have lost, buried, thrown away, ignored, or denied, out of fear or out of shame, or out of sheer necessity. The role of a psychotherapist is to facilitate this process of change.

Mrs. Godula holds a PhD from the school of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Spirituality at Saint Paul University in Ottawa (2019), where she also completed her MA degree (2002), and a BA in Psychology from the University of Calgary (1999). She also worked as a psychotherapist/counsellor at different community organizations in both Ontario and Alberta, with a wide range of populations, as well as in private practice. She is also a clinical supervisor, and is involved in teaching and training of university students preparing for practice.
